DuPage Forest Preserve Re-Opens
The Forest Preserve at Mallard Lake has re-opened and is available for public use as of September 1st, 2010. The 80-acre Lake is now accessible by bicycle or car from Schick road where you will see spectacular scenery on your ride into the park.
The facility has new, additional parking, accomodating up to 193 vehicles. A pavillion with picnic tables is located at the entrance of the limestone trails for your enjoyment. The trail around the lake is a very walkable 1.3 miles with an additional 1/2 mile side trail that lets out at the Greenbrook Elementary school and ultimately to Greenbrook Blvd.
The lake is a popular spot for fisherpeople and yeilds largemouth bass, catfish, crappie and northern pike. One of the improvements to the lake is the stabilization of the north shoreline which includes a wave break to dissipate waves on the shore. Look for the native vegetation that is planted on the noth shoreline.
I recently shot video of the park. For those whom have not had a chance to venture across the street you can see the park here.......
